1. Vertical Heartbeat Challenge Tasklist

Part 1 - Data Collection

1. Measure your heart rate through pulse. The value is called your resting heart rate.

Break-up into groups of 4.

2. Assign a time-keeper and recorder in your group.
i. Time-keeper will be in-charge of recording time and
ii. Recorder will record data of finishing time when pupils reach the bottom of staircase and announce it to his/her team members.

3. Walk up the flight of stairs to Level 3 (where the P6 classes are) and then come back down. When you arrived at the finishing line, take your heart rate through measuring your pulse.

4.  Everyone will record their time and pulse in Excel spreadsheet.

Part 2 - Analysing Data and Drawing Conclusion

1. Access the data from all participants through excel spreadsheet link.

2. All group will provide one conclusion based on the data and provide reason behind the conclusion
(Conclusion can

Synopsis

Pupils are always curious about who is fitter; boys or girls. Through the use of measuring heart rate, the latter would be a precursor to helping pupils satiate their curiosity.

Pupils need to understand the concept of heart rate and how it varies with activity.

Pupils will do a simple vertical challenge and walk up and down 3 storeys and measure heart rate before (resting heart rate)  and after the activity.

Pupils will also learn how to measure pulse and see its connection to a beating heart and heart rate.

Pupils to record heart rate through beat of pulse and record it in Google Form using handphone or iPad. Teacher will provide link to pupils to the spreadsheet so pupils can see the resting heart rate and heart rate of entire class after the activity.

Being a mobilised learning lesson, pupil will form conclusions e.g.;-

Who is the fittest/least fit in the class and why?
Are boys fitter than girls?
Also to form limitations behind their conclusions e.g.;
some variables are not constant e.g. some pupils may have existing medical conditions
